Photography Assignment to New Zealand

American Kathleen Brader will journey to New Zealand, to be honored with the New Zealand Order of Merit for Kiwi Conservation,  also visiting Kiwi habitat, bird reserves, and Zoos. A highlight is to attend the Alexander Turnbull Library to donate letters, photos, and ephemera items relating to the international Kiwi breeding program. Special visit to Te Papa. My photography will document the New Zealand trip including encountered fauna and flora.

North Island The Kiwi birds gifted to the Smithsonian Zoological Park came from Northland, where there will be a special thank you visit. Next to Tiri Tiri Matangi Island to encounter the rare endangered Takahe bird. Very few Takahe survive, less than 300 in the wild. The journey continues to Matiu/Somes Island, Nga Manu, Pukaha Mt Bruce, Rimutaka forest, and Rotorua. In Wellington, there will be an exciting night walk in Zealandia to encounter the nocturnal life. A visit to Wellington Zoo with Kiwi. And must not forget the generous invitation to WETA.

South Island The South Island visit has so many adventures of stunning scenery. Kathy will attend a Kiwi Hui in Queenstown, as senior Bird keeper of the Smithsonian National Zoo.

I hope you enjoy a selection of my images of New Zealand’s fauna flora, especially the natural beauty of the land.
